Historical items (Stanford University. School of Medicine). 1871-<1981>.

This collection comprises memorabilia/ephemera relating to the Stanford University School of Medicine and its predecessors, Cooper Medical College, Medical College of the Pacific, and University of the Pacific, Medical Dept., and Morse Dispensary, California Science Association, Lane Medical Library, and the California Medical History Seminar. Each item is mounted in a bound volume (v. 1, 61 items; v. 2, unnumbered pre-Stanford; v. 3, unnumbered; v. 4, 10 items; v. 5, 12 items). Selected items have separate records; others consist of commencement and reunion invitations, Dr. Lane's business card, announcements of sessions and graduate/postgraduate medical courses, patient statistical reports, class schedules, letters/memos, programs, announcements, etc. Vol. 3 also includes photograph of Clara Manson receiving service award from the Veterans Administration Hospital in San Francisco and a clipping from Time magazine featuring Mungai Njoroge, a Kenyan who graduated from Stanford Medical School in 1957.

Cooper Medical College founded in San Francisco, Calif. by Levi Cooper Lane (1882). He named school for uncle, Elias Samuel Cooper, who had founded first medical school in California, University of the Pacific School of Medicine (1858). University operated medical school until 1865 when competition from Dr. Toland's medical school forced closure of University of Pacific Medical School.
